2020 NFL Draft: 12 Standouts from college football bowl season
8. Richard LeCounte, S, Georgia
One of the best things about Richard LeCounte‘s game is his ability to find the football. He has a knack for making plays. And he did just that during the Georgia Bulldogs’ Sugar Bowl game against the Baylor Bears. Both Bears quarterbacks had a difficult time against the Georgia defense. LeCounte picked off both signal-callers.
While he didn’t make plays in the running game against Baylor, he normally does. He flies to the ball and attacks the running game despite his lanky frame. He’s a solid tackler who can play close to the line of scrimmage.
However, thanks to his length and range, he’s also great in zone coverage. He tracks the ball well and shows good ball skills. His length aids in his disruptive nature in coverage.
Although LeCounte does have solid range, ball skills, and athletic traits, his best fit comes in a two-high safety position. LeCounte trusts his eyes and it often pays off. While he isn’t most instinctive player in the 2020 defensive back class, he’s good enough warrant late Day 2 or 3 considerations.
He’s capable of playing free or strong safety thanks to his ability to contribute in both phases of the defense.
