2. Eric Bieniemy

Coaching Experience: Chiefs offensive coordinator (2018-present), Chiefs RBs coach (2013-17), Colorado offensive coordinator (2011-12), Vikings RBs coach (2006-10)

If you’re looking for a reason to detract from Eric Bieniemy‘s merits as a potential NFL head coach, they would probably start with the fact that his success as the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator has possibly been a byproduct of coaching under Andy Reid, an accomplished and revered offensive mind in his own right. But that’s where the detractions simply stop.

Despite the fact that Bieniemy has worked under Reid, it shouldn’t be taken lightly that the two most prolific offensive seasons in the history of the Chiefs have come with Bieniemy helming the offense as the coordinator. Furthermore, his time as running backs coach saw him help produce some of the better running backs of the past couple of decades in Adrian Peterson and Jamaal Charles.

Bieniemy should be a more attractive option for the Browns than he’s seemingly getting credit for at this point. While Reid deserves his credit for what Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense has become, Bieniemy has had a large part in that as well. And why wouldn’t Cleveland want to take that and try to apply it to Baker Mayfield?

Though he might not be the top candidate for the Cleveland Browns, in my opinion, Bieniemy is close to it. He’s more than done enough to have earned the opportunity while also having the pedigree to be a great fit with this roster. Also given the success of the Reid coaching tree, the Browns would likely be quite pleased with what Bieniemy would bring to the table.
