Green Bay Packers: 5 Reasons Titletown will add another Super Bowl
3. Diverse, albeit inconsistent, pass-catchers
There’s no mistaking who the alpha of the Packers wide receiver group is this season. Davante Adams was far and away the best of the bunch, catching 83 passes for 997 yards and five touchdowns in only 12 games this season, missing four contests with a toe injury. Outside of Adams, however, the pass-catchers in Green Bay have been much maligned.
Considering that no other Packers pass-catcher had more than 500 yards on the season, it’s not hard to see why people would pick this group apart. Yet, three other receivers or tight ends on the team had more than 400 yards while another had over 30 receptions and both running backs had nice seasons as pass-catchers out of the backfield.
Near the end of the season, Allen Lazard emerged as the seemingly clear No. 2 in the passing attack catching nine balls on 17 targets over the final two weeks of the regular season. However, Geronimo Allison, Jimmy Graham, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Jake Kumerow have all stepped up at various moments throughout the season.
If you’re betting on who’s going to step up in a given week for the Packers, best of luck to you. However, what you can bet on is that someone will be there to step up to help Adams and the running backs in the passing game. It may be frustrating that no one has been consistently reliable but the diverse group is still capable of stepping up as a whole.
