Stud: The Smith Bros, EDGE

“SNUBBED” t-shirt and all, Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith looked worth every penny that Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst paid them this offseason in free agency. It was a clear effort to remedy an ailing pass rush from last year and it worked during the regular season but it showed up just as large in the playoff debut of The Smith Bro in Green Bay s as well.

Both Za’Darius and Preston Smith ended the night with just two total tackles — but they also had two sacks apiece and each notched four quarterback hits on the night. The Green Bay edge rushers were consistently harassing Russell Wilson and taking advantage of the lackluster Seahawks offensive line on Sunday night. And while the quarterback did get free in the second half, that’s hard to put that on The Smiths as they were doing their part to generate pressure.

Dud: Almost every pass-catcher not named Davante Adams

As terrific of a night as the Packers offense and Davante Adams had, one area of concern that resurfaced for this team was the lack of consistency among their pass-catchers. Frankly, if Adams and one other player (we’ll get to him shortly) had not been on the field and able to step up in a big way, Green Bay would’ve been in trouble.

Geronimo Allison was the Packers’ third-leading wide receiver on Sunday night in the Divisional Round with only one catch for 11 yards. He was one of only three players to have at least double-digit receiving yards while he was also one of five players to notch just one reception on the night, which doesn’t include Jake Kumerow, who didn’t haul in his only target on the night.

Allen Lazard getting injured early on didn’t help the cause for Green Bay but it remains concerning how little depth there is for Rodgers to trust in this pass-catching corps.
