Brandon Scherff, Offensive Guard

The trouble of the Chicago Bears’ offensive line has been covered constantly in Chicago. The interior part of the line had its trouble. Many fans complain about the tackles but they signed big deals and had success in the past. Both Charles Leno Jr. and Bobby Massie will return in 2020.

The Bears switched Cody Whitehair and James Daniels and that move dramatically failed. Then right guard Kyle Long’s body broke down from all the injuries he’s had and he was placed on injured reserve for the fourth season in a row. That was also the last time since he ultimately retired.

I believe that having Daniels at left guard and Whitehair at center makes the line stronger. Daniels had trouble calling the proper blocking schemes. Whitehair has experience doing that and is more adept at calling those schemes. Additionally, Whitehair and Trubisky already have a rapport and having the young quarterback as comfortable as possible is a priority.

Where a real change comes is at right guard. There is no one on the roster who can step in and play like Long did or be the leader he was.

In comes Brandon Scherff. Scherff is one of the top guards in the league. He made the Pro Bowl in three of his five seasons, including this season. He’s a mauler who commands respect. He’d be able to step into Long’s shoes and be a leader on and off the field.

Washington is in a total rebuild. Some players want to flee. He has a chance to leave on his own and if allowed to help a team like Chicago win a title he’d be open to taking it. It may be costly to sign him but it would certainly be worth it.
