Minnesota Vikings: Positives and negatives from 2019 season
With the Minnesota Vikings season coming to an end in the NFC Divisional Round, here are some positives and negatives from the 2019 season.
With four teams remaining in the 2020 NFL Playoffs, the Minnesota Vikings will be watching the rest of the postseason from home. The Vikings, who made a return to the playoffs this year after missing out the year prior, had their run at a Super Bowl title come to an end in the NFC Divisional Round last weekend.
Minnesota, which contained the sixth seed in the NFC, fell on the road to the top-seeded San Francisco 49ers in an ugly showing in the Divisional Round of games around the league. That performance came a week after the Vikings managed to kick off the playoffs in upset fashion, taking down the third-seeded New Orleans Saints on the road in an NFC Wild Card Game.
Minnesota concluded the 2019 campaign with a regular-season record of 10-6, grabbing double-digit victories for the first time since the 2017 campaign when it finished the year at 13-3 while making it as far as the NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Along with grabbing 10 wins on the year, the Vikings finished in second place in the NFC North standings behind only the Green Bay Packers (13-3 overall), while sitting ahead of the Chicago Bears (8-8) and Detroit Lions (3-12-1) within the division. They also managed to snag the second Wild Card spot in the NFC, which resulted in Minnesota opening the playoffs in New Orleans to begin the postseason.
When looking ahead to the offseason in preparation for the 2020 campaign next year, the Vikings will have a decent amount of questions to answer surrounding team personnel, including both players and the coaching staff.
Before we take a dive into those offseason needs, let’s look back at the 2019 campaign for Minnesota and come up with a few takeaways from the year that was and pick out some positives and negatives that took place for the purple and gold.
