1. Positive: Returning to the postseason in 2019

During the 2018 season, Minnesota finished the year around the .500 mark while failing to finish atop the division and not grabbing a Wild Card spot in the conference. That resulted in the Vikings missing the playoffs after going as far as the NFC Championship Round of the postseason in 2017.

Minnesota went into the 2019 regular season this year looking to end that slump quickly, eying a division title and a return to the postseason by the year’s end.

After compiling an overall record of 10-6 throughout the regular season, the Vikings ultimately didn’t accomplish the goal of securing a NFC North title, finishing behind the division champion Green Bay Packers, but Minnesota did end up finishing in one of the two Wild Card spots in the NFC.

The Vikings rode the positive of getting back to the playoffs by opening the postseason with a thrilling overtime victory in the NFC Wild Card Round against the third-seeded New Orleans Saints, looking to make a deep run in the playoffs as an underdog squad.

Minnesota ended up having that underdog run come to an end in the NFC Divisional Round on the road against the San Francisco 49ers, with the year ending on an ugly note given the performance of the team in Santa Clara against the top-seeded 49ers.

Going into the offseason, the Vikings will try and regroup to attempt to make it two playoff appearances in a row in 2020, but the fact that they were able to return to the postseason and even reach the Divisional Round during the 2019 campaign is positive that the organization can try and build onto moving forward.
