Kris Richard has been an up and coming coach for a few years now, and even took a step down to go to the Dallas Cowboys in 2018. Richard had been the defensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks from 2015-17 and defensive backs coach from 2010-14. He accepted a position as defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator with Dallas in 2018, but was not retained at the end of the 2019 season.

Richard is credited with helping develop Seattle’s vaunted “Legion of Boom” secondary in the early 2010s, which included the likes of Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, Earl Thomas, Brandon Browner and Byron Maxwell. The Seahawks defense shut down one of the best passing offenses of the modern era, the 2013 Denver Broncos, in Super Bowl XLVIII, holding them to just eight points.

This past season under Richard, Dallas finished 10th in pass defense, allowing an average of 223.5 passing yards per game. During his time as defensive coordinator with the Seahawks, Seattle finished 2nd, 5th and 11th, respectively, in total yards allowed.

Richard recently interviewed for the New York Giants’ previously vacant head coaching position, but was passed up in favor of former Patriots special teams coach Joe Judge. At the very least, the Packers should give Richard an interview.
