Minnesota Vikings: 3 Offseason moves to return to playoffs next season
2. Continue to work on offensive line
Another key offseason objective that should be on the radar for the Minnesota Vikings going into this offseason is that the Vikings should continue to try and work on improving the offensive line. Over the last handful of seasons, the Minnesota offensive line has been put under the spotlight as one of the weaknesses on the offensive side of the ball for the purple and gold.
Often times at the end of the year, people look at the Vikings and say they need to address the issues they held among the offensive line group view it as an area the team will need to improve going into the upcoming season.
Throughout the 2019 campaign, Minnesota’s offensive line made some strides in the right direction after being a below-average unit during the 2018 season the year prior.
While protecting Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins and opening holes for running back Dalvin Cook and the rest of the running back group, the offensive line was fairly average during the course of the regular season.
As a team, Minnesota’s offensive line allowed a total of 68 quarterback hits to the hands of opposing defenses, a mark that ranked the fifth-best in the NFL during the 16-game regular-season schedule.
In totality, Cousins and other Vikings quarterbacks were sacked a total of 28 times, which was tied for fifth-best in the league. Minnesota also helped Cook tally some of the best statistics and numbers of his three-year NFL career out of the backfield.
Going into the 2020 season, the Vikings should look to continue to look to improve both the talent level and the depth within their offensive line. If they are able to do that, Cousins, Cook and the rest of the offense will only continue to improve this upcoming year and beyond in Minnesota.
