2020 NFL Mock Draft: What if the Bengals pass on Joe Burrow?
By Dan Parzych
Watching former No. 1 pick Jameis Winston throw for more than 5,000 yards to go along with 33 touchdown passes in 2019 would make it seem like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have an easy decision on their hands in regards to giving the quarterback a new contract.
But unfortunately for the Buccaneers, this decision will be easier said than done since Winston turned out to be a turnover machine as well with 30 interceptions.
With this many turnovers, it’s no wonder Tamp Bay would only go 7-9 in 2019 and miss out on the playoffs once again to add even more pressure heading into next season.
Even if the Buccaneers decide that Winston isn’t the answer under center, Tampa Bay needs to make sure their quarterback in 2020 receives the best protection possible to help put the team in better position to finally earn a trip to the playoffs.
Iowa’s Tristan Wirfs has received all sorts of high praise over the years for the work accomplished on the Hawkeyes offensive line, although there are some concerns about his transition to the NFL.
Still, if the Buccaneers can help develop Wirfs right away, a pick like this could work wonders on offense for Tampa Bay to help the unit be more consistent.
