2. Collin Johnson, WR, Texas

The first thing that stands out about Collin Johnson is his massive frame, he’s nearly 6-6 and weighs 220 pounds. Coming into the week, there were questions about Johnson’s flexibility. At times he looked stiffed and Texas’ offense didn’t help him as far as developing his route tree. At the Senior Bowl, the Longhorns wide receiver proved he’s not the atypical big receiver.

Johnson consistently got in and out of breaks, showing he has plenty of hip flexion. He was allowed to show that he doesn’t just get open on the eight and nine routes. No, he’s not the most elusive nor does he possess the ideal run after the catch. Nevertheless, he has a great catch radius and plays above the rim.

Johnson can also box out and work the middle of the field just as well as he does on intermediate routes. He had the confidence and ability to take punishment on tough catches. He’ll help minimize quarterback’s mistakes.

The draft is deep at the wide receiver position so the options are plentiful. Teams needing a possession X receiver capable contributing in the red zone immediately could wait for Johnson. Thanks to the Senior Bowl and his film, he’s shown there’s potential for him to be a volume target in an NFL offense.
