2020 NFL Draft: 11 Senior Bowl standouts who raised their stock
11. Jeremy Chinn, S, Southern Illinois
The nephew of Steve Atwater, Jeremy Chinn has the same imposing nature due to his 6-3, 219-pound frame. He’s a small school prospect who benefited greatly from the Senior Bowl exposure. As The Draft Network’s Jordan Reid pointed out, he’s shown a lot of good things on tape, including 10 total interceptions over the last three seasons:
"“[Chinn’s] turnovers aren’t right place, right time type of gimme plays. He’s making standout plays in coverage where he’s attacking the ball out of the air and winning the competition at the catch point… Extremely heady prospect as a run defender and when in coverage.”"
While at the Senior Bowl, Chinn proved he could move with good speed and isn’t overly stiff despite his build. There was one play where he ran “stride for stride,” with speedy Texas A&M wideout Quartney Davis.
Some scouts see him as a tweener but, based on his Senior Bowl performance, he’s shown he can play safety. His best fit will come in a scheme that utilizes two deep safeties. Chinn could bring extra value as joker linebacker thanks to his size, speed, and physicality. With the success of players Mark Barron, Telvin Smith and Deone Bucannon, there’s a place for Chinn on an NFL roster.
