2020 NFL Draft: 11 Senior Bowl standouts who raised their stock
9. Joshua Kelley, RB, UCLA
On the stat sheet, UCLA’s Joshua Kelley had a really good career. He rushed for a total of 2,303 yards with a 5.1 yards per carry average and 24 touchdowns. Still, he’s not a name many draft fans know probably because he plays on the West Coast.
Power and toughness describe Kelley’s game. He makes players pay when they try to tackle him straight up. He’s not a burner but has enough speed to break for a big run. He’s able to get to the edge on zone runs and get his pads squared in a hurry.
In the Senior Bowl alone, Kelley showed he had great contact balance and doesn’t lose speed. He does a great job weaving through traffic and isn’t bothered by a crowded line of scrimmage. Kelley showed off his second gear and made a name for himself.
There were also reports praising him as one of the better interviews in the draft. With an excellent week and dominant game, scouts will undoubtedly put a big star next to his name thanks to his performance.
Kelley could end up being a volume back in a power offense. Zone teams could use him as well thanks to his fluidity and ability to change directions. It doesn’t matter where he gets drafted, Kelley will make a running backs coach very happy.
