Pick Analysis. 5. 847. player. Scouting Report. Safety. Virginia Tech. Reggie Floyd

The Chicago Bears signed safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix to play with his college teammate Eddie Jackson. Clinton-Dix had an okay season, but having him meant moving Jackson from the free safety position he played so well to strong safety. Jackson had a Pro Bowl season but he wasn’t the turnover machine he was as a free safety.

The Bears likely get a strong safety through free agency and move Jackson back to his free safety spot. Safeties are undervalued so they could pick someone up at a good value. They still need depth and that’s where Reggie Floyd helps.

Measuring in at 6-0 and weighing 220 pounds, Floyd has great size for the position. He has a good blend of physicality and range. As a box safety, he has the explosiveness that sets the tone defensively. He also has the speed to go sideline to sideline quickly and with ease.

Floyd still has to learn some more before becoming a bona fide NFL player. He sometimes becomes too aggressive and he needs to use better form when tackling. He won’t be in a position to be the man right away. He can provide depth early on and learn a great deal from Jackson. He has the physical tools to succeed in the league. He just needs to put it all together consistently.
