The San Francisco 49ers fell short in Super Bowl 54 but they can make moves to try and return in the 2020 NFL Draft and do so in this 7-round mock draft.
One year after going 4-12 following Jimmy Garoppolo‘s ACL tear, the San Francisco 49ers made it to Super Bowl LIV to take on the Kansas City Chiefs. And for three quarters, it appeared that Kyle Shanahan‘s club was on their way to securing the sixth championship in franchise history. But that was not meant to be.
Thanks to a terrific comeback by Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in the fourth quarter, in addition to the 49ers offense stalling in a bad way, San Francisco fell short, losing 31-20 thanks to a late score that iced the game when Kansas City was trying to run out the clock. Now San Francisco enters the offseason eyeing free agency and the 2020 NFL Draft hoping to return to the Super Bowl next season.
49ers general manager John Lynch has been quite savvy throughout his tenure in the San Francisco front office, as evidenced by the contender he’s obviously built. However, to address their needs in the 2020 NFL Draft, he will need to continue to be savvy.
Due to the trades for Dee Ford and Emmanuel Sanders over the past year, the 49ers don’t have a second-, third- or fourth-round pick in this draft. Subsequently, though they would love to get a talented player with the No. 31 overall selection, they may be best served to try and trade down to acquire more capital and fill more depth needs that they must address this offseason.
The needs for the 49ers aren’t dire considering they made the Super Bowl. But to return next season, cornerback, the offensive line, edge rusher and even wide receiver are all areas where San Francisco could stand to make an impact with depth in the draft.
So how can they go about getting all of this done? Let’s take a look with a post-Super Bowl LIV 7-round mock draft for the San Francisco 49ers. (Note: This mock was compiled using The Draft Network Premium and the mock draft machine.)
