Super Bowl 55 odds: Chiefs favored to repeat, 49ers and Ravens trail
The Kansas City Chiefs will enter the 2020 NFL season as odds-on favorites to win Super Bowl 55 but the 49ers and Ravens are right behind them.
A new Super Bowl champion has been crowned as Andy Reid‘s Kansas City Chiefs used a Patrick Mahomes-led fourth-quarter comeback in Miami to topple the San Francisco 49ers, 31-20. It’s the first title in 50 years for the franchise in their first appearance since then as well. But while they’re celebrating, we’re already looking ahead.
Though Kansas City can bask in the glory of winning Super Bowl LIV, it’s time to look to the 2020 NFL season that will ultimately lead to Super Bowl LV. Will the Chiefs be back in the fold? Can the 49ers get over the hump? Will other favorites that fell short this year have what it takes to go a notch further next season?
The Chiefs are the favorites to repeat as champions in Super Bowl LV but let’s take a look at the odds for every team, courtesy of The Action Network.

It’s hard to argue with any of the three favorites in the Chiefs, 49ers and Ravens as they were the two Super Bowl participants and then the team with the best regular-season record in the NFL led by the league MVP, Lamar Jackson, respectively. It’s hard to imagine any of these teams are going anywhere, so pegging them as favorites is the right call for the early Super Bowl odds.
There are some curious, to put it nicely, odds on the table, however. The Patriots with the fifth-best odds seems quite alarming given the shortcomings they showed in 2019 and the uncertainty surrounding Tom Brady‘s return. Furthermore, the team that beat the Pats and then went to the AFC Championship, the Tennessee Titans, have the same odds as the Chargers, a team that currently has no quarterback and had the seventh-worst record in the NFL last season.
And if we’re digging to the bottom of the barrel, why are the Miami Dolphins such heavy underdogs? They won five games with a bare-bones roster in 2019 and have a litany of draft picks and salary cap room that should improve their team tremendously. Do they deserve to be top 10? Not even close — but they shouldn’t have worse odds than the Redskins and Bengals, among others.
While the 2020 NFL season is still eight months away and Super Bowl LV is a year in the future, so much can change with these odds moving forward. Having said that, it’s always beneficial to see how oddsmakers view the upcoming season to try and get a picture of what’s coming next year.
