What’s Next for Kansas City?

The Kansas City Chiefs are Super Bowl champions. Let it sink in. Aside from the glitz and glamour of football glory, what else does the win mean for the franchise? Quite a lot, actually.

First off, it cements Mahomes as the face of the NFL. Winning a Super Bowl a year after winning the MVP is outstanding enough. The final domino to fall was winning the title in front of scores of people who otherwise don’t watch the NFL. For countless people, this was their first dosage of Mahomes, and it will last in their memories.

Second, Andy Reid may have just cemented his status in the Hall of Fame. As the seventh-winningest head coach of all-time, the previously elusive Lombardi Trophy should push him closer to a golden jacket. Another note: This only bolsters Eric Bienemy’s résumé. The offensive coordinator will surely get a head coaching job soon. (Maybe in Kansas City?) After all, he orchestrated this beauty.

The final effect of the Super Bowl victory is that a good portion of this team will get paid, either through endorsements, new contracts or both. I expect Mahomes to break the bank. Chris Jones, Bashaud Breeland and Reggie Ragland are the main impending free agents whom I expect to drastically improve their bank accounts. What can I say, a “Super-Bowl Winner” has a ring to it that usually leads to heaps of money.

One more thing it means? LeSean McCoy is a Super Bowl champion, even though he didn’t play.
