Trubisky needs as many weapons surrounding him as possible. The more targets he has to throw to the better his chances are of completing big plays. Cole Kmet of Notre Dame gives him another good target.

Kmet is a player the Fighting Irish moved around. They lined him up in-line, in the slot, at fullback, and even out wide. Everywhere he goes he creates a mismatch. He does a good job of getting off the snap quickly and he has good footwork, not wasting any steps.

For the most part, Kmet has very good hands. At times he’ll use his chest but he mostly uses his hands to snatch the ball out of the air and bring it in.

Kmet does a good job of adjusting his route to find the weak point of the zone, a zone buster if you will. He’ll exploit that weakness and give the quarterback an open target. At 6-5 and 250 pounds, he could also bully smaller defensive backs. He does a good job at making contested catches and once he makes the catch he fights to get extra yards.

Kmet also played baseball at Notre Dame. He started out primarily as a baseball player but gradually moved to football. He had a breakout season in 2019, making 43 catches for 515 yards and six touchdowns.

In terms of blocking, Kmet can improve. He is a willing blocker but at the moment he is more of a help blocker than one who blocks in space. This is something he can improve, however, with more experience and coaching at the professional level.
