The Las Vegas Raiders will pursue Tom Brady if he’s there in free agency. So if they land him, what will they do in the 2020 NFL Draft to make a run?

From the moment buzz started gathering that Tom Brady could leave the New England Patriots in 2020 NFL free agency, joining Jon Gruden and the Las Vegas Raiders has been something proposed by many people. Moving on from Derek Carr and making a big run with the 43-year-old (when the 2020 season begins) quarterback seemed like the type of risk Gruden and Raiders general manager Mike Mayock would be willing to take.

And that indeed appears to be in the cards. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, if Brady indeed hits the open market in free agency, the Raiders are expected to make a run at signing the quarterback. With a young, talented team on the upswing needing to make a splash with a move to a new city, it stands to reason why they would do that.

Tom Brady would unquestionably alter the trajectory of the Raiders in the immediate future. Though the Patriots were lesser as a whole this past season, Brady still has some left in the tank, enough to vault the Raiders into the playoff mix. But moving on Brady would also alter the team’s plans for the 2020 NFL Draft.

While it remains to be seen if the Raiders would move on from Derek Carr if they didn’t sign Brady, it’s in the mix for early in the 2020 draft as of now. But with Brady, it’s less of a need. At the same time, though, Brady’s struggles with a downtrodden Pats offense in the 2019 season would put a focus on improving the weaponry in the Las Vegas offense to give the veteran a good situation to walk into.

Of course, wanting to improve the offense to appease Brady also doesn’t erase the needs on defense for the Raiders. They must get better at linebacker and cornerback right now and could stand to get some depth on the defensive line and maybe on the back end of the secondary as well.

So if the Las Vegas Raiders land Tom Brady, what could their haul in the 2020 NFL Draft look like? Let’s examine that in a new 7-round mock draft.
