Since Gruden arrived, the Raiders have made a concerted effort to try and revamp their defensive front. While the jury is still out on last year’s first-round pick Clelin Ferrell, they should look to beef up the interior of the defensive line alongside 2018 fifth-round steal Maurice Hurst.

Rashard Lawrence garnered a ton of experience in LSU and, though he was moved around a lot, he seems to fit the bill as an early-career rotational pass-rusher on the interior. He can come in and shoot gaps with his great burst off the line. With development, he has the tools to be an every-down player that’s a steal at the end of the third round.

We’re not stopping with just giving the Raiders Higgins. If this team wants to put Brady in a position where he has more weapons, they need more than Higgins, Tyrell Williams and Darren Waller to entice him in the passing game. That’s where Tyler Johnson comes into play.

The Minnesota standout is a technician as a route-runner who’s more than capable of working in the slot or the outside with high effectiveness. While he may need to get stronger to deal with press coverage, Johnson can be an elite possession weapon with some downfield upside on occasion.

We didn’t get to see Johnathan Abram in his rookie season with the Raiders but he’s an impact defender on the back end for this defense. Having said that, they could look to get more of a coverage player and Shyheim Carter is an interesting addition in that regard to end Las Vegas’ draft.

Carter is not an elite coverage player by any means, largely playing as a sub-package nickel in Alabama’s defense. However, his explosiveness and sure tackling make him an interesting fit alongside Abram as a physical pairing with some coverage upside.
