The New York Jets own the 11th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. One player they should consider is Alabama wide receiver Jerry Jeudy.
The New York Jets have a myriad of needs as they head into the 2020 NFL Draft in April. Gang Green owns the 11th overall selection and can head in a lot of different directions. Offensive line, wide receiver and an edge rusher are among their most pressing needs.
One player that the Jets should definitely consider is wide receiver Jerry Jeudy from the University of Alabama. The 6-1, 192-pounder won the Biletnikoff Award as the top wide receiver in the nation in 2018 and is a two-time All-SEC First-Teamer (2018, 2019).
The Deerfield Beach, FL native had 77 receptions for 1,163 yards and 10 touchdowns for the Crimson Tide last year and finished his stellar career in Tuscaloosa with 26 touchdown catches and a 17.2 average per reception. Pretty impressive.
Let’s take a look at some of his college highlights:
The first thing you notice about Jeudy is his outstanding speed and yards-after-catch (YAC) ability. Although lanky in stature, the former 2018 Consensus All-American is deceptively strong and can break tackles effectively. He’s a true playmaker in every sense of the word. Gang Green needs to supply Sam Darnold with viable, game-breaking weapons and Jeudy would certainly fit the bill.
Let’s not forget that Robby Anderson is an unrestricted free agent and will most likely be playing elsewhere next season (Carolina, Las Vegas, Miami?). While the Jets will miss Anderson’s breathtaking speed, let’s face it, he’s not a true No. 1 stud receiver. On a very good team, he’s probably a No. 3. New York will not overpay for him, nor should they. It’s time to move on and concentrate on upgrading the wideout position via the draft.
If Jeudy is still available with the No. 11 pick, the Jets have to grab him. He’s a superb route runner who is explosive out of his breaks. Jeudy has outstanding leaping ability and a quick burst off the line. He can take any reception to the house and is a superior athlete. Jeudy is smart and has a strong work ethic as well.
In a perfect world, you’d like to see Jeudy measure a few inches taller but he really appears to be the whole package. He shined brightly against the premier competition in the SEC for three seasons and he has the ability to be a true, bonafide No. 1 wide receiver in the NFL. The Jets may even need to trade up to secure him. It certainly would be well worth it.
