There are few instances in how the first nine picks in the 2020 NFL Draft play out where the Cleveland Browns shouldn’t take an offensive tackle. Those scenarios are ones where they are unable to nab one of the top two or three players at the position to address the biggest need on the roster and biggest hindrance to success.

Tristan Wirfs is the No. 2 offensive tackle in the class and, as he’s on the board, the Browns snatch him up with hesitation. His ability to move in space and also play with a powerful punch make him ideal for how the Browns should play under Stefanski. With the frame to also succeed at guard, he’s a versatile prospect ready to play and improve the offense on Day 1.

There was one point in the draft process when Grant Delpit dropping to the second round would have been blasphemous. But the more things have gone along and as we’ve started to digest his 2019 film with LSU, there are more warts to his game than many people would like to admit, starting with his tackling.

While that may be true, the upside of Delpit remains that of a first-round talent. He has the physical tools, range and instincts to be an elite playmaker on the back end of an NFL defense. He certainly needs to be coached up in terms if his motor and tackling but his top-end performance is what Cleveland must add to their secondary.
