. LB. Cleveland Browns. Akeem Davis-Gaither. 4. player. 53

Akeem Davis-Gaither is definitely a divisive prospect coming out of Appalachian State and the reasons aren’t hard to identify. On one hand, he has tremendous sideline-to-sideline speed and great lateral agility to make plays both in coverage and in space. But with a short frame that needs added bulk, his ability to consistently play in the box is in question.

While that all may be true, the athlete that Davis-Gaither is makes him too enticing for me to pass up in the fourth round. He can come in and be a special teams ace right away with the upside, assuming physical development, to be a plus asset in the middle of the defense.

At 6-1, 199 pounds, it’s not hard to see why an NFL team would be enticed by the physical tools Oklahoma State cornerback A.J. Green brings to the table. He has the length and, for the most part, a lot of good technical habits to be a successful corner at the next level.

While that may be true, he does require some refinement with his hand usage and footwork, particularly in press coverage. Furthermore, he needs to add some weight to his frame to save him from being bullied by stronger, more physical wide receivers. For the Browns to add depth though, getting Green in Round 6 is a nice move.

While some fans might prioritize taking someone on the interior of the offensive line a little higher for the Browns in the 2020 NFL Draft, a relatively weak class at the position makes me believe that addressing that area in free agency and adding depth in the draft is the best course of action.

Dustin Woodard out of Memphis is the pick as a result. Though he’s an undersized offensive lineman at only 285 pounds, he plays with solid strength and is a great mover as a pulling guard. Cleveland will need to bulk him up but, as a developmental late-round prospect, the upside is there.
