4. Buffalo Bills

If you’ve seen any Buffalo Bills game this year, you should know they need a back like Derrick Henry. After watching Frank Gore play the role of the power back and average under three yards per carry in nearly half of his games this year, Buffalo knows they need to bring in someone like Henry who can run inside the tackles and take the pressure off of Josh Allen to drop back and pass.

The Bills were one of the better rushing outfits in the NFL in 2019, attempting the sixth-most rushes and averaging the eighth-most rushing yards per game. Yet, 166 of their 314 rushing attempts were handled by the soon-to-be 37-year-old Gore.

While Gore is one of NFL history’s leading rushers and a near-certainty for the Hall of Fame, he only managed 3.6 yards per carry and two rushing touchdowns on the season. The Bills would be inclined to find his replacement, and who better than the 26 year-old bruiser who ran over their most hated division rival and the AFC’s No. 1 seed?

Henry would be a great fit for Buffalo, as the Bills struggled mightily in the Wild Card Round when they couldn’t run the ball. They were forced to play empty sets towards the end of the game and that caused Allen to make mistakes. With Henry in the fold, the Bills could return to their preferred style of play and win with a run-oriented offense and stifling defense. Henry could do wonders with a mobile quarterback running RPOs and playing behind an offensive line that was much improved in 2019.

While I believe Devin Singletary has the capability to be a three-down running back and that the Bills still need some speed in the backfield, Buffalo can afford the luxury of paying Derrick Henry. They are projected to have $82 million in cap space, per Spotrac, and need to capitalize on the financial flexibility of Allen’s rookie deal. Henry would be a good fit in Buffalo and could be a nightmare to play against when it starts to snow in December.
