3. Indianapolis Colts

Through the first eight weeks of the season, Jacoby Brissett held down the fort for Indianapolis. While he never could fully replace Andrew Luck, the Colts were 5-2, and Brissett’s quarterback rating was 99.3.

Unfortunately, Brissett got injured while facing Pittsburgh’s dominant defensive front in Week 9. The Colts suffered under Brian Hoyer for the remainder of the game and Week 10. When Brissett returned, he looked like a different quarterback. Indianapolis’s season went downhill quickly.

After throwing 14 touchdowns and three interceptions in his first seven games, Brissett threw four touchdowns and three interceptions in his final seven starts. The Colts finished 7-9 and missed the playoffs.

The Colts signed Brissett to a two-year, $30 million contract last offseason. He will count for $21,375,000 million against Indianapolis’s cap in 2020, which represents about 8.88 percent of the team’s cap. However, the Colts should be among the top five teams in terms of cap space available this offseason.

Is there a way for Indianapolis to keep Brissett and add Bridgewater? That depends on how much money Bridgewater wants. The answer is probably not. Either way, the Colts cannot settle for Brissett as their starter in 2020. The team’s offensive line looks good, and they have T.Y. Hilton and Marlon Mack as well. The Colts can make the playoffs with Bridgewater at quarterback.
