. S. San Francisco 49ers. Xavier McKinney. 31. player. 42

For as well as the San Francisco 49ers defense played this season, their secondary still leaves a bit to be desired from where I’m sitting. That’s somewhat true at cornerback where they could stand to get faster but it’s even more appropriate when it comes to the safety spots on the back end of the defense. They need a consistent playmaker who can come in and help shore up the back end.

Xavier McKinney can come into San Francisco right away and give the Niners an upgrade. He has the ability to be a plus tackler when he comes down but has the range and athleticism to be effective in both man and zone coverage sets. McKinney can do whatever is asked of him thanks to the full tool chest he possesses and could be a real factor in keeping San Fran clicking.

D'Andre Swift. 32. player. 124. . RB. Kansas City Chiefs

Damien Williams played the role of hero for the Kansas City Chiefs in their Super Bowl win over San Francisco and, frankly, had a right to say that he should’ve been the MVP of that game. Furthermore, Kansas City still needs some help on the defensive side of the ball. But for a team predicated upon their offensive success, I can’t help myself and I’m taking D’Andre Swift with the final pick of the first round.

Swift is a do-it-all running back coming out of Georgia with big-play speed but footwork, quickness and balance that can make would-be tacklers miss in a phone booth. Not only can he handle 20 carries per game but he’s a pass-catcher and great pass-protector as well, making him a perfect fit for this high-octane Chiefs offense and giving Patrick Mahomes another weapon to work with.
