2020 NFL Mock Draft: Dolphins, Panthers trade up in 3-round projection

Most people would not highlight wide receiver as the most pressing need for the Denver Broncos as they go into the 2020 NFL Draft. They could stand to further improve the offensive line and have some needs on defense that could really get this group back to the level that it was at when they were competing for Super Bowls just a couple of years ago. Yet, all the buzz points to them getting weapons for Drew Lock in the offense.

They reportedly want a speed asset in the passing game and there’s no one faster in the class than Henry Ruggs III. With track star type speed at his disposal, Ruggs can beat any defense over the top. Having said that, he’s more than just his speed. He has great footwork to win in short areas and has better route-running prowess than he’s often given credit for. He can really open up this offense in a big way in Denver.

Are there pieces on the Atlanta Falcons defense that you have to like? Of course. Grady Jarrett is truly a dominant force at defensive tackle, the linebacker corps is solid and the defensive back group isn’t spectacular but gets the job done overall. Where they struggle, however, is in the trenches around Jarrett where they lack consistent presences off the edge and on the interior.

With those areas being of concern for Dan Quinn’s team, A.J. Epenesa makes too much sense for them if he’s on the board. The Iowa product is a bullish edge rusher that can win with polished moves and power. However, his frame gives him the flexibility to also slot inside and still be an effective pass-rusher. Adding him to the Falcons defensive front would help take this unit to another level.
