Andy Dalton is clearly on his way out from the Bengals, so which NFL teams should be picking up the phone to make a trade for the quarterback?

From the moment Andy Dalton was benched for rookie Ryan Finley midway through the 2019 season, it became clear that the Cincinnati Bengals were heading towards a change. Even though he eventually retook the starting job, the Bengals earning the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft made that more clear with the opportunity to bring in LSU quarterback Joe Burrow.

Now that the 2020 NFL offseason has gotten underway, it’s even more apparent that the plan in Cincinnati is to move on from Dalton and start anew with Burrow. On Wednesday, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the Bengals are willing to work with their veteran quarterback on a potential trade so that he avoids ending up in an unfavorable situation.

With a furiously spinning quarterback carousel this offseason, there should be several nice situations that could be interested in Dalton. After all, this is a quarterback who has over 30,000 passing yards and over 200 touchdowns with only 118 interceptions in his career. Furthermore, you can win with Dalton, evidenced by the fact that he led the Bengals to four straight playoff appearances from 2011-14.

Is Andy Dalton the most high-upside quarterback you’re going to find? Absolutely not. He is what he is, an above-average signal-caller — but that’s more than enough to get the job done in the NFL if the infrastructure around him is sound. So with quarterbacks like Tom Brady, Philip Rivers, Cam Newton and a loaded draft class all in play, Dalton is younger than the veterans and more proven than the incoming rookies.

There should be plenty of interest in Dalton throughout the NFL as the 2020 NFL offseason continues. And as the Bengals work with the quarterback to make a good trade for the player and franchise, these are five places that would make a lot of sense for Andy Dalton to land via trade.
