Andy Dalton trade rumors: 5 NFL teams who should make a deal with Bengals
4. Los Angeles Chargers
One of the biggest quarterback dominoes in the NFL to have already fallen is the Los Angeles Chargers officially parting ways with 16-year veteran quarterback Philip Rivers. This move has been expected for quite some time but now that it’s official, we have to start wondering what their plan at the position is moving forward.
Looking at the current roster, you can pretty safely assume that this team isn’t going to trot Tyrod Taylor out as their starting quarterback for the 2020 season. The two likeliest options — perhaps in tandem — seem to be the Chargers making a free agency play for Tom Brady as he tests the open market for the first time in his career and also using the No. 6 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft on a quarterback.
But if the Chargers strike out on Brady, either with him choosing to return to New England or signing with another team in the NFL, what’s the plan in Los Angeles then? They would be ill-advised to roll with a rookie quarterback that they would get at No. 6 as a player like Justin Herbert needs some time to develop.
That’s where Dalton would then come into play for the Bolts. He would come into a situation where, yes, the offensive line needs to improve but the weapons are intriguing. Keenan Allen and Mike Williams are a nice wide receiver tandem and the defense, which should be healthy in 2020, is set to hit the upswing. Whether the Chargers draft a quarterback or not, Dalton could possibly end up being their best option.
