Green Bay Packers: 5 Players to trade for in 2020 NFL offseason
By Joe Kipp
3. Keenan Allen, WR
There’s no question the Packers need help at the wide receiver position. Receiver Davante Adams was the only legitimate threat for the offense outside of running back Aaron Jones in 2019, which is a big reason why trading for a proven veteran makes sense. Outside of Adams, no Packers player recorded over 500 receiving yards this past season.
Los Angeles Chargers receiver Keenan Allen (6-2, 211 pounds) would be a great addition to a Green Bay offense lacking weapons. Allen, who turns 28 in April, has spent all seven seasons of his career with the Chargers since being drafted in the third round in 2013.
Allen’s career started shaky, but he has since progressed into a top 20 receiver in the NFL. From 2014-16, Allen failed to finish the season due to various injuries and was labeled as being potentially injury-prone.
Since then, Allen has been named to three straight Pro Bowls from 2017-19, recording a total of 303 receptions for 3,788 yards and 18 touchdowns during that span. He played in all 16 games each of those seasons.
Entering the last year of his current contract, the Chargers could be willing to ship him off while they still can, especially with the recent news that the team would not re-sign quarterback Philip Rivers. The Packers may be able to acquire Allen for a third-round pick.
