1. Brandon Scherff (Age: 28)

When wide receiver Allen Robinson was a free agent a couple of seasons ago he was considered one of the top targets available. Not many experts had the Chicago Bears pursuing him but Pace shocked them by making the big, splashy signing.

The same situation might be happening in 2020.

Brandon Scherff will be the most sought-after guard in free agency, especially given that the market for guards is a little thin. Even if there was a big market for that position, Scherff is one of the top guards in the league.

The Athletic ranked the top 100 free agents for 2020 and ranked Scherff the top offensive lineman target and 18th free agent overall. Here is what they said about him, per Redskins Wire:

"His athleticism makes him one of 10 best offensive linemen in the league at pulling to the edge on sweeps and crack tosses, or even in the screen game. …If he can stay healthy, he’s one of the premier guards in the NFL."

Scherff does have an injury history. He suffered a torn pectoral muscle in the 2018 season that caused him to miss eight games and shoulder and elbow injuries cost him five in 2019. When he is on the field, however, he is a monster.

Remember that Robinson was coming off a serious knee injury but the medical reports were positive. The Bears made a tough decision and it turned out well.

If the Chicago Bears are serious about fixing their offensive line woes they cannot continue to look at diamonds in the rough. Scherff is the top offensive lineman and he exhibits many of the leadership qualities that Long showed when he played. The front office should do what it can to get him signed and in a Chicago Bears uniform as soon as possible.
