Denver Broncos build around Drew Lock in 7-round 2020 mock draft
By Lucas Schuh
You might be asking how Clemson’s Tee Higgins was available for the Broncos in the middle of the second round. The fact is, The Draft Network simulator had him still on the board. And, in truth, with the deep wide receiver class in the 2020 NFL Draft, it’s not far-fetched to think receivers outside of Jerry Jeudy or CeeDee Lamb could fall farther than expected. Thus, Higgins being here isn’t that outlandish.
The ability to separate and get open, whether it be guys who get open from their speed, their route-running or their elite quickness, is a trait that’s critical to target with wide receiver prospects. Higgins, however, is not a separator but he does other things exceptionally.
Higgins is a decent route runner, though he won’t take sharp turns and cuts on in and out routes and won’t kill you on comebacks or curl routes. However, he can beat you on the deeper routes consistently. Higgins excels at going downfield, being physical and having insane hands and contested-catch ability that are second to none.
This past season at Clemson, Higgins looked like he knew where the ball was going before it was even released. Even if a defensive back was all over him, it didn’t matter because Higgins would find a way to make the catch.
Drew Lock did not have many weapons at wide receiver outside of Courtland Sutton. Granted, Sutton had a great season, but adding Higgins to this roster can give Lock another possible deep threat who can make contested catches for big plays.
Other Players Available: Josh Jones, Trevon Diggs, Brandon Aiyuk
