Minnesota Vikings: 5 Possible cuts to make in 2020 offseason
4. Pat Elflein
Another player that could find himself being cut by the Minnesota Vikings before the start of the 2020 NFL season comes on the offensive side of the line of scrimmage and specifically within the offensive line.
Soon-to-be fourth-year lineman Pat Elflein, who was selected with the 70th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Vikings, could be among the first wave of cuts the organization makes this offseason.
Elflein had a tough season in 2019 while protecting Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins on the offensive side of the field after making the move from center earlier in his career.
In his first year at left guard for Minnesota, Elflein is going to be heading into the final year of his rookie contract in 2020 and would allow the Vikings the ability to cut ties with the offensive lineman before his contract amount takes a bump up following this upcoming year.
Elflein is set to make roughly $2.2 million in 2020 before the young lineman would ultimately hit free agency ahead of the 2021 campaign.
Minnesota will likely look to continue to try and shore things up within its offensive line in the offseason, if it is able to do so and attract a player via free agency or draft a lineman while trying to upgrade from Elflein at the position.
The feeling of parting ways between both parties could be mutual, as well, with Elflein probably preferring to try and fight for his job at center rather than try and continue to take the field as a guard with the Vikings.
