4. Detroit Lions

Since Matthew Stafford doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon, no one really expected the Detroit Lions to consider the possibility of selecting a quarterback in this year’s draft at No. 3.

However, reports have recently surfaced over the Lions possibly exploring trade options for the former top overall pick, and if Detroit does, in fact, find a partner to take on Stafford for the 2020 season, this could shake up the first round a bit.

For starters, a team like the Miami Dolphins sitting at No. 3 could all of a sudden be worried about the possibility of Tagovailoa being unavailable once on the clock if the Lions decide to go with him two picks before.

When healthy, Stafford has proven to be one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL at times, but Detroit has only reached the playoffs three times in his tenure, all of which turned out to be losses.

What has been even more frustrating for the Lions is the team was expected to return to the level of being a top contender in the NFC after hiring Matt Patricia two years ago, which obviously hasn’t happened.

Obviously, it seems unlikely that Detroit will consider Tagovailoa if Stafford is still part of the picture, but if a trade does happen before the draft, expect the speculation to heat up.
