NFL Free Agency 2020: 5 Best landing spots for Arik Armstead
By Tom Franich
2. Seattle Seahawks
If anyone needs a player who can seem to put up double-digit sack numbers, it is the Seattle Seahawks. Tied with the Falcons at only 28 team sacks, the Seahawks’ sack leader was Rasheem Green who had just four sacks on the season.
Now, defensive linemen Ezekiel Ansah, Jadeveon Clowney, Quinton Jerfferson, Jarran Reed and Braden Jackson, all of whom had at least two sacks on the season, are all set to become unrestricted free agents.
Adding Armstead to the Seahawk’s defense to replace one of their upcoming free agents would be a big steal for Seattle and it wouldn’t hurt that they’d take him off the rival of their NFC West rival in the 49ers. However, Armstead’s loyalty to San Francisco might make him to pricey for Seattle to ultimately land.
1. Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs are riding high after coming out on top in Super Bowl LIV. Their players may still be celebrating, but the front office needs to resume focus and get ready for NFL free agency.
Regular season sacks leader Chris Jones, veteran Terrell Suggs and defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah are all possibly departing as free agents. They may need to be aggressive in the offseason to keep their defense at the necessary level to possibly repeat
Pairing Armstead with Frank Clark would create a tough challenge for any offensive line. Clark had eight sacks over the regular season but was a force in the playoffs, picking up five sacks over the Chiefs’ three playoff games. Kansas City does not have a ton of salary cap room and keeping Jones and adding Armstead appears near impossible. With some smart roster cuts, however, they could potentially make room to add Armstead and fortify their front seven.
