2020 NFL Mock Draft: What if Redskins replace Dwayne Haskins with Tua Tagovailoa?
By Dan Parzych
In the latest 2020 NFL Mock Draft, the Washington Redskins pull off a surprise by deciding to replace Dwayne Haskins with Tua Tagovailoa at quarterback.
From now until the middle of April, just about every 2020 NFL Mock Draft will most likely consist of Alabama star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa joining the Miami Dolphins since the team has so much uncertainty at the position.
However, one of the most exciting factors surrounding the draft each year is unexpected surprises, especially early on in the first round. With that being said, the Washington Redskins knew they had nothing to lose last spring by using a first-round pick on Dwayne Haskins after looking at the impressive season put together the year before at Ohio State.
Like most rookies, Haskins is clearly a work in progress when it comes to reaching the necessary level to be a consistent NFL quarterback, and while the Redskins seem committed to working with him at the moment, there certainly are no guarantees.
Does this mean that Washington would ever consider the possibility of going with a quarterback in the first round for the second year in a row by selecting Tagovailoa during April’s draft if they felt he was the better option over Haskins?
This may seem unfair to Haskins since the Redskins didn’t exactly provide the best weapons to work with as a rookie in 2019, and Washington could easily settle for another great prospect such as Chase Young.
But when seeing how this similar situation worked out last year for the Arizona Cardinals by replacing Josh Rosen with Kyler Murray, there has to be some part of the Redskins considering the possibility of Tagovailoa.
There’s a reason why Tagovailoa is considered one of the top quarterback prospects from this year’s draft class, and the last thing Washington wants to do is feel some sort of regret down the road, realizing they missed out on a great player to help build the franchise around.
So to have a little fun, it’s time for another NFL Mock Draft for 2020 to see how things would play out if Tagovailoa were to go No. 2 to the Redskins in April.
