3. Interior offensive line

Ramon Foster‘s contract expires in 2021. However, the long-time starter may not play out the final year of his current deal. Considering how terrible the running game was in 2019 and Foster’s declining play, the 34-year-old is a prime potential cap casualty.

With Foster potentially heading out the door, the Steelers also need to survey their remaining offensive linemen. Maurkice Pouncey made the Pro Bowl in 2019, but the 30-year-old center arguably played some of the worst football of his career. David DeCastro is also 30, and his most recent All-Pro selection came in 2017. While DeCastro will play for years to come, he may not return to his dominant form.

Great teams build from the front back. When Pittsburgh’s offense lit up the NFL, the line played like one of the best in football. The Steelers need to get back to that form, especially since Ben Roethlisberger seems near the end of his career. Even if Pittsburgh can’t make one final push, at least they can set the offensive line up for the next quarterback.

The five best offensive linemen in the 2020 draft all play tackle. That pushes all of the top guards and centers back into the second round. The Steelers should get one of the best interior offensive linemen, even with the 49th pick.
