The New York Giants have a lot of work to do to get back to contender status. Here are five players to target in 2020 NFL free agency.

The New York Giants are turning a new page this offseason with the retirement of quarterback Eli Manning, which means newcomer Daniel Jones will take the reigns as the new face of the franchise. Jones will need plenty of help if the Giants want to make it back to the promised land, but luckily there’s plenty of options to replenish the roster in 2020 NFL free agency.

The Giants finished the 2019 regular season with a final record of 4-12, good for third place in the NFC East. They’ll select at No. 4 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft with plenty of needs to fill. But in the meantime, New York has plenty of cap space to help replenish major holes on the roster via free agency.

According to Spotrac, the Giants currently hold an estimated $61 million in cap space for the 2020 season. Of course, there will be plenty of moves in the meantime, starting with releasing players that are cap casualties. That said, the Giants are a very young team, so adding veteran players in free agency to complement an influx of youth in the draft makes sense.

Some key positions the Giants could target include offensive tackle, cornerback and defensive end. New York had arguably the worst secondary in the NFL last season, headlined by poor play from rookie Deandre Baker. The Giants also released cornerback Janoris Jenkins in December after Jenkins tweeted an insensitive phrase at a fan.

The Giants have a lot of work to do this offseason, but the foundational pieces are in place for a strong roster. New York appears to have their quarterback of the future in Jones, a star running back in Saquon Barkley and a nice supporting cast at the wide receiver position.

The team will need to upgrade on both sides of the line of scrimmage, however, if they want to be contenders this coming season. With that in mind, here are five top targets for the New York Giants in 2020 NFL free agency.
