2020 NFL Mock Draft: Pre-Combine 3-round projection fueled by trades
Assuming that the Dallas Cowboys head down the projected path and lock up Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper, then Byron Jones is going to be the odd-man-out in free agency. That leaves a huge hole at cornerback, a hole that Kristian Fulton can fill. Many people have put him down because he “got burned” in the National Championship Game but he was performing his duties in the scheme quite well and the help wasn’t there. He’s a fantastic prospect that can be a CB1 in the Dallas defense.
(Pick via Steelers) Retaining one of their two extra first-round picks is huge for the Miami Dolphins as they have more needs on the roster — a lot more — than just needing a franchise quarterback. That’s where Chaisson comes in. Though the LSU product has endured some injury issues in his college career, his blend of length and explosiveness off the edge is incredible and he can be a cornerstone defensive piece for the Dolphins as they look to take a big step forward in their rebuild.
(Pick via Bears) Because they’ve neglected to do so for so long under two separate regimes, part of me is inclined to believe the Las Vegas Raiders might not address their glaring hole at linebacker in the first round. At the end of the day, however, it’s too great of a need for them to not take Patrick Queen here.
The LSU product lacks experience, starting only in 2019 for the Tigers. But his play this past season, particularly in the College Football Playoff, was that of a possible superstar linebacker. He’s an absolute force capable of excelling in run defense and when asked to drop into coverage.
(Pick via Rams) It’s only fitting that, with the pick the Jaguars acquired from the Rams in the Jalen Ramsey trade, that they look to fill the hole at cornerback left by Ramsey. A.J. Bouye has been fantastic but the secondary needs more talent of that level and C.J. Henderson can be that. While he needs to add some strength and become a better tackler, his man coverage abilities are obvious and Henderson should fit in well to what Jacksonville likes to do with their defensive backs.
