After missing with high draft picks for several years in a row, the Seattle Seahawks must select reliable players in the 2020 NFL Draft.

In the early 2010s, the Seattle Seahawks built one of the best teams in the league through superior work in the NFL Draft. Over three years, the team netted potential future Hall of Famers in Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, Bobby Wagner, and Russell Wilson along with numerous other Pro Bowlers.

However, Seattle’s draft magic ran out after 2012. While the team still nailed several selections over the past seven years, the hits come far less consistently, and the misses appear even more blatantly. While the Seahawks still play competitive football, the team is a far cry from its former glory.

If Seattle wants to make it back to the Super Bowl, the team must eliminate the draft mistakes that plagued the organization for the past seven years. All it could take is a few minor adjustments when it comes to the 2020 NFL Draft.

5. Avoiding the offensive line

The last two offensive linemen who the Seahawks drafted with high picks turned into Germain Ifedi and Ethan Pocic. While Ifedi did start 60 games during his four seasons with the Seahawks, the Texas A&M product never lived up to his pre-draft hype. Pocic quickly found himself on the bench, and Seattle appears eager to keep him there.

Seattle’s recent struggles could scare them away from selecting an offensive lineman with a high pick. However, the team needs help along the line. With George Fant, Joey Hunt, Ifedi and Mike Iupati heading toward free agency, the Seahawks potentially need two new starters and multiple depth pieces.

Since Wilson arrived in Seattle, the Seahawks feel comfortable not breaking the bank on the offensive line. Duane Brown is the only player anchoring the offensive line right now, but Seattle may want to adjust their philosophy as Wilson ages. He won’t be able to scramble forever, and who knows how long his phenomenal healthy streak will continue?
