3. Getting complacent at cornerback

After railing at the overall defense, it’s time to focus on the cornerback position. While the pass rush disappointed in 2019, and Seattle faces heavy free agent losses along the line, Seattle should also take a good look at their pass coverage.

Last season, Griffin took a significant step forward. The former third-round pick from UCF made his first Pro Bowl. While he failed to intercept a pass for the first time in his career, Griffin played the best football of his life. He finished the season with 13 passes defensed.

Things didn’t go so smoothly on the other side of the field. Flowers felt the heat. The converted college safety played well for a fifth-round pick in his rookie season, but things got rocky in 2019. Flowers did finish the season with three interceptions, but interceptions can be a deceiving stat. They don’t always coincide with good play.

While Flowers will play out the remainder of his cheap rookie contract with Seattle, the team could consider finding someone to challenge him on the depth chart. There are several cornerback prospects this draft who could fall to Seattle in the second round.

With questions about Flowers’ future development and the impending departures of Akeem King, Neiko Thorpe and Kalan Reed into free agency, Seattle should not remain complacent with their current depth at cornerback.
