Kansas City Chiefs bolster defense for Super Bowl repeat in 7-round mock draft
By Lucas Schuh
Outside of Mitchell Schwartz, this Chiefs’ offensive line has been rough. Eric Fisher hasn’t lived up to his billing as a former No. 1 overall pick and struggled to stay healthy in 2019. The interior offensive line was just as problematic, if not worse. Andrew Wiley and Laurent Duvernay-Tardif played poorly. Kansas City clearly could use a change, which is why Netane Muti would be a great pickup to upgrade the offensive line.
To put it simply, Muti is a freak. The Fresno State product is a mover of humans and is freaky strong at the point of attack. Though he is strong, he doesn’t lose mobility for a guy with his size and strength. The best thing about Muti is that, even though he is a dominant run blocker who won’t stop until his defender is in the dirt, he is an excellent pass blocker as well.
Muti would be a perfect fit into this Chiefs’ offensive line and their run game. When Kansas City ran the ball, they mainly deployed a zone scheme, which Muti slots into perfectly. With Mahomes being a mobile quarterback who likes to take off on occasion, he needs mobile offensive lineman, another strength of their second-round selection here.
You may be wondering, with all these positive things, why would Muti last until the 63rd pick of the NFL Draft? Muti has one big problem: injuries. Muti has suffered two season-ending injuries in two straight years, a torn Achilles and a shoulder injury. But if he is able to stay healthy, Muti would be a big help on this Chiefs’ offensive line.
