Chris Harris Jr. had a terrific nine-year run with the Denver Broncos, but it appears to be over after Harris matched career-lows with six passes defensed and one interception despite playing 1,047 snaps — 99 percent of the team’s defensive plays.

Harris will be 31 by the time next season starts and is coming off a season during which he moved from the slot to the outside, with very mixed results.

Opposing receivers made 49 catches on 73 targets against him, a completion percentage of 67.1, for 831 yards and four touchdowns, an opposing quarterback rating of 112.3. To go with the one pick and six pass breakups, Harris forced a fumble, had one tackle for loss and was in on 44 total tackles.

The four-time Pro Bowler did not earn any postseason honors in 2019 for a Broncos team that finished well out of the hunt at 7-9 — though they were 5-3 in the second half of the season. Harris was a first-team All-Pro selection by the Associated Press in 2016 and was named to its second team in both 2014 and 2015.

That’s lofty stuff for a player who was undrafted out of Kansas in 2011. He has 20 career interceptions and 86 passes defensed, setting a career-high with 17 in 2014.

But Harris wasn’t always happy with the way he was used last season, telling 104.3 The Fan last week:

"“If you follow my situation, it wasn’t a great situation for me and it showed in my play.”"

The Philadelphia Eagles could be a potential landing spot for Harris, considering the Eagles finished 19th in the NFL in passing defense and 25th in air yards allowed on completions with 2,586, often an indicator of problems with coverage downfield.
