The Kansas City Chiefs reportedly will not let Pro Bowl defensive lineman Chris Jones get away, with Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated reporting last week that the club will likely tag Jones if they can’t reach a deal by March 12.
Jones moved inside last season after recording 15½ sacks from his defensive end spot in 2018 and continued to keep the heat on, with nine sacks and 20 quarterback hits in just 13 games, 12 of them starts, in 2019.
Jones also forced a fumble, recovered one and defensed four passes while notching 27 quarterback pressures.
Jones missed three games in October with a groin injury and sat out Kansas City’s Divisional Playoff victory over Houston because of a calf injury.
He returned to play 28 snaps against Tennessee in the AFC Championship and started the Super Bowl victory over the 49ers, playing 48 snaps.
Jones’ lone multiple-sack game last season game in Week 10 in a loss to the Titans at Nashville, when Jones had two sacks, eight tackles, two quarterback hits and a forced fumble. He broke up two passes in a Week 11 win at the Chargers.
