NFL Free Agency 2020: Best landing spot for top 20 players
By Phil Watson
Inside linebacker Cory Littleton has more passes defensed over the last two seasons after becoming a starter for the Los Angeles Rams than any other linebacker in the NFL, according to Pro Football Reference. With 22 passes defensed over that span, Littleton is one ahead of Buffalo Bills linebacker Tremaine Edmunds.
And in a league where 30 of the NFL’s 32 teams threw the ball more often than they ran it — with nearly half the league, 14 teams, throwing it more than 60 percent of the time — having a linebacker who can cover tight ends in the seam and get to running backs in the flat can be huge.
Littleton was a Pro Bowler in 2018 and finished seventh in the NFL in 2019 with four fumble recoveries. He was eighth in the league with 134 total tackles after finishing 10th in 2018 with 125.
He signed his restricted free agent tender last year and becomes unrestricted this time around and, according to Stu Jackson of NFL.com, the four-year veteran would prefer to return to the Rams, but understands that might not be in the cards.
The Green Bay Packers could use a versatile playmaker on the inside in their 3-4 set and the former undrafted free agent from Washington could fill the bill. He’s started 32 regular-season games over the last two years after spending most of his first two seasons on special teams and has recorded five interceptions, two forced fumbles, 7½ sacks and 15 tackles for loss.
