The Chicago Bears will have their eyes on a few prospects at the 2020 NFL Combine. But before they test, here is one more 7-round mock draft.
The lull of the offseason is fading away. The NFL’s new year hits us in mere weeks (March 18th). Chicago Bears fans finally get a chance to see what the team’s plan is to get back to the playoffs and be a real contender for the Super Bowl.
The Bears will make some more cuts and possibly restructure some contracts to make some moves through free agency. They already cut wide receiver Taylor Gabriel and cornerback Prince Amukamara, and Kyle Long retired so they’ve already saved money there. They have around $26.1 million in cap space and will free some more space in the coming weeks.
Of course, the team cannot win with free agents alone. They’ll need draft picks to help as well. The Bears don’t have a first or third-round pick, but they do have two second-round, fifth-round, and seventh-round picks.
Interestingly, general manager Ryan Pace has a history of making good picks in the middle to late rounds and has a difficult time in the first round. Between 144 and 196 (53 picks), the Bears have four picks. That looks to go right into Pace’s strength. Hopefully, that works out.
I must say something about the forthcoming 7-round mock draft: I don’t have the Bears taking a quarterback. I believe they’ll sign a veteran to push the incumbent starter Mitchell Trubisky. A rookie won’t be able to do that.
Also, while I have two linebackers taken, I don’t have an edge rusher. For my money, two scenarios occur: either the Bears sign Leonard Floyd to an extension at a lower amount than the $13.22 he’s due now or they cut him altogether and sign another veteran.
Here is my latest Chicago Bears seven-round mock draft as we watch the NFL Combine.
