player. 851. Scouting Report. Texas. Devin Duvernay. Pick Analysis. Wide Receiver. 4

As I mentioned earlier, Trubisky needs help around him so he (and Pace) keeps his job. The Chicago Bears continue to help him out with their third pick of the draft by picking up wide receiver Devin Duvernay.

The Bears recently let go of Taylor “Turbo” Gabriel. As his nickname infers, Gabriel had good speed and was a deep threat. The problem was that he just couldn’t put it together when he was in Chicago.

With Gabriel gone, the Bears need to have a speedster who can do what Gabriel didn’t. This year’s wide receiver class is very deep and the Bears can grab a good one in the middle to late rounds. They could look to Devin Duvernay in the fourth round.

In high school, Duvernay was the Texas state champion in the 100-meters. In 2019, Duvernay led the nation in catches (106) and fourth in receiving yards (1,386).

Duvernay has the tools to be a good receiver. He has outstanding hands and uses his power to gain extra yards after the catch. He is like a bull who sees red when he runs at tacklers, and he loves to knock them over. Additionally, he is athletic enough to adjust his body to make catches.

Despite his tools, Duvernay hasn’t been consistent. He has the ability to run away from defenders but sometimes doesn’t run routes well enough to create space. He has the hands to make great catches but might drop an easy pass. With Riley Ridley ready to play more and perhaps a veteran picked up via free agency, Duvernay could provide depth in his rookie season. He can also help on special teams.

With coaching at the professional level, he could put all his tools together and eventually be a big contributor to the offense.
