Miami (FL). player. 834. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 5. Linebacker. Shaquille Quarterman

The Chicago Bears have decisions to make at inside linebacker. Danny Trevathan, Nick Kwiatkoski, and Kevin Pierre-Louis are all free agents. Kwiatkoski may have played his way out of Chicago so the Bears can try to re-sign Trevathan. His injury might give the team an opportunity to keep him at a more team-friendly deal.

Even if the Bears re-sign Pierre-Louis they need to add depth. In 2019, the team lost both Trevathan and Roquan Smith for a period of time. Kwiatkoski and Pierre-Louis stepped up and played well in their absence.

The Bears need to be prepared should that happen again. A player who can play well as a backup and be a spot starter is Shaquille Quarterman.

Quarterman was a four-year starter for the Miami Hurricanes. He was a third-team All-ACC as a freshman, a second-team All-ACC as a sophomore, and a first-team All-ACC in both his junior and senior seasons.

He’s a downhill, hard-hitter but, when the play goes wide, he’ll have some trouble. Playing on an elite defense like the Bears’ unit could cover up for that. The Bears have the players who can take care of the outside. If Quarterman can help in the middle he’d be an asset.

Despite his troubles going wide, Quarterman has a penchant for finding the ball carrier. He had 356 tackles (46.5), 12 sacks and 13 passes defended. He makes use of the tools he has.

Quarterman also has a high motor. The man just keeps going and going. He looks to make a play and will play through the whistle. He’d be a great addition to the Chicago Bears defense and should learn a great deal playing on their defense.
