Scouting Report. player. Michigan State. Josiah Scott. 5. 805. Pick Analysis. Cornerback

With Amukamara getting cut, the Chicago Bears need some help at cornerback. Duke Shelley and Kevin Toliver likely compete for the starting job. The Bears could also decide to move Buster Skrine over (though he had a very good season there) or they could pick up a free agent. The Bears don’t have a bottomless pit of money so they’d have to find a very cheap option.

Josiah Scott can add depth at cornerback. Scott is a terrific corner but his size is a question. He is just 5-10 so he’ll likely play the slot. Despite his size (or perhaps because of his size), he is a dynamo. He is persistent and pesky so his teammates nicknamed him “The gnat.”

Additionally, he is a gifted athlete with quick feet, smooth hips, and explosive speed. He is also a ballhawk, recording seven interceptions and defended 25 passes in his three seasons with the Spartans.

ESPN Draft analyst Mel Kiper is impressed with Scott. He has him as the best prospect coming out of Michigan State:

"I think the player that I like in terms of grade the best is Josiah Scott, the corner. … He’s aggressive, he’s a willing tackler, he’s got good awareness… he’s got pretty good ball skills, seven career interceptions. I like the tape… I like the way he turns, I like the way he flips his hips, I like his feet. He’s going to help the secondary, whether he’s a starter, nickel, fourth corner, he’s going to be a guy that plays in the league for a long time I think, as I’d say a third- to fifth-round pick."

Scott is a player who’d be popular with the fans. He has a high motor, he loves to make a big tackle and he’s the little engine that could. He won’t take his place for granted and could help the Bears.
