player. 881. Scouting Report. Josh Jones. Offensive Tackle. Houston. 1. Pick Analysis

Up until last offseason, the Dolphins actually had what appeared to be a solid future at offensive tackle. Then, Ja’Wuan James left in free agency for the Broncos. Soon after, turmoil began with rumors swirling that Miami was tanking the 2019 season, leading to players wanting out and eventually the Laremy Tunsil trade. That left the Dolphins with no long-term answers at tackle.

Luckily for the Dolphins, the offensive tackle class in the 2020 NFL Draft is one of the strongest in recent memory. And one of the players that could fill the massive void now present at tackle is Josh Jones out of Houston.

Many draft analysts will say Jones is a bit of a raw prospect and there is undoubtedly a degree of truth in that. In terms of his technique, Jones is indeed raw and can be a bit awkward in his pass sets. However, he dominated the competition at Houston with his natural skills and elite athleticism to go along with god-given size.

While Jones’ development ahead of him and the time that may take could scare some teams away from selecting him with a first-round pick, that won’t be the case with the Dolphins. Miami isn’t expecting to become a playoff team after one draft class considering the teardown they implemented with their roster.

That’s absolutely perfect for Jones, who will need the help of an offensive line coach who can work with his footwork and technique to maximize his physical abilities. When he reaches his prime, however, he has the potential to be one of the better offensive tackles in the NFL.
